Patriotic Civil War Tokens

A simple message is portrayed on these Liberty tokens, but it is a message that would not be accomplished for another two years. Several hundred thousand men would die in the effort. Unfortunately, they were all from the same country, fighting each other. Like the Remerber the War token dies, this may have a relationship with Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg address honoring the fallen soldiers. As likely, it may be a message from the Union Democrats seeking an end to the war and a restoration to normalcy. Alas, that normalcy included the continuance of slavery. These individuals were known as the “Copperheads.” A group verbally attacking the North while living in their midst. Ironically, the South had no respect for them either.
