Patriotic Civil War Tokens

This message is generally attributed to the Northern Democrats who sought an end to the war. It was not the “Copperheads” goal to change anything, but maintain the status quo and return to state of trade with the South. The “Copperheads” were attacked vehemently by the press and shunned by the South. Abraham Lincoln went so far as to banish some of the “Copperheads” to the South for becoming violent enough to be put in jail. Their message may have been good, but their reasoning seems to have been flawed.
