These Civil War Store Cards of Freeport, Illinois are ascribed to the shop of S.D. Childs. Childs was a prolific token manufacturer. His dies commonly make use of a woman’s head and most of his dies use sans-serif lettering. He also produced Sutler tokens.
The IL 320E token is ascribed to Mossin & Marr. Marr produced tokens mostly for customers in Wisconsin, and he was apparently the principal engraver. He signed several of his token dies boldy with MARR. Most of these tokens will be deeply engraved and well struck.
